Over the top, or history repeating?

Even as I read the title I thought the concept to be a bit over the top. Dictatorship? In America? No way, never happen. But then I reread the article and that suddenly all too familiar feeling crept back in: What if...

Rep. Paul Broun (R, Georgia), as covered by the AP, takes a direct shot at the extreme end of what could become reality under The One. In part Broun's comments are based on what has absolutely happened, more than once, in the past on scales as grand. They are also based on very real Obama comments, not to be denied. To say history repeats itself is neither cliché nor trite in this case. History does, in very profound ways, repeat itself.

I haven't read much in depth about Nazi Germany or Hitler since high school, but I have read quite a bit about the Soviet Union, Marxism, and more to the point Stalinism. And yes, this is EXACTLY what happened in the USSR, especially when the Bolsheviks reached the height of power under Stalin. Scariest of all is that the tenants of the Bolsheviks align in many ways with ideas coming from Obama. More on this in future posts.

I still hold out hope that America, Congress (even littered with Democrats), and the current Supreme Court will see this coming long before reality sets in. You can bet if plans for a National Security Force under Obama's control moves forward, he'll be hammered on similarities to these massively failed totalitarian regimes and their tactics. You can also bet the snake oil salesman will have just the right answers as to why his form of a force is different enough to ensure no such history can or will repeat itself. The question is whether or not we believe him. I already don't.
